US Open Update: Tennis Injuries reduce men's Lineup

US Open Injuries Reduce Lineup in Men's Draw

The old style of play had a lot of things going for it including fewer injuries.  For club and league players the style of the past is still quite useful in that in works well with aging bodies.  The equipment out there can still be used to hit the flat and backspin shots needed to learn that style but you need to look toward 11-12 ounce frames and there aren't many of these.  The Head Radical series has a few of them along with Kennex, and possibly Yonex.  Look around and find an answer to your aching wrist, elbow, and shoulder with a change in equipment and style of play.  If you're not a pro why live with the increased injury risk that comes with the heavy spin fast hitting style now seen in the professional game.

Diet and Health: 4 Cups of Coffee Reduces Early Death Risk 64%, Too Much Salt Deadly

4 Cups of Coffee

It's always good to hear that something as enjoyable as coffee has health benefits.  If you're an athlete and think avoiding all things like caffeine and alcohol will make you stronger and more resilient this may be one case where abstaining is a disadvantage.  Notice that de-caffeinated coffee seems to have similar benefits if the caffeine bothers you.

Too Much Salt Doubles Heart Failure Risk

It does pay to limit salt intake somewhat and exercise in the heat is one way to help excrete it.

Avoiding Sports Head Injuries: Play Tennis

There is risk in almost all sports.  Each sports has a list of them.

One playing golf may have to worry about overexposure to the sun, or too much drinking at the same time becoming dehydrated from lack of water.

Boxing risks head injuries as does football, soccer, and even basketball and baseball but the risk is not as high in these.

Tennis carries repetitive use injury risk such as tennis elbow, wrist injuries, and even back and knee problems but most of these come from heavy use.  If you don''t drink water you can become dehydrated and lack of a hat or sunscreen is a choice rather than a risk to overexposure to the sun.

Your risk of head injuries in tennis may come from a fall if you lose your balance, or maybe if you hit yourself with a racket.  In doubles there is risk that a partner could run into you or hit you with a racket.  But each of these is rare and improbable to cause an extreme injury beyond a bump on the head.

The risk is minimal on a tennis court for the type of head injuries that come with contact sports.  I you want your kids to play a sport that limits head injury risk while at the same time giving them a sport for life this is the one.

Exercise: A helpful Cure to Constipation

Study Shows increased problems in USA

So they blame it on a modern life.  If you eat right with a fair amount of fiber and just get out and move you'll be much less likely to have problems.

Where does Tennis come into the picture?  How many regular tennis players do you know with digestive issues and in particular constipation.  I submit that just the level of activity required to participate in the game at almost any level is easily the physical activity component needed to keep things moving.  Add in high fiber food and if necessary some of the fiber powder used by older people and you should be without issue.

How to Beat Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray by Pat Cash

How to Beat them - video

Great ideas and of course you'd have to be a John McEnroe in his 20's to pull it off.  He still hits the ball amazingly well.
