Tennis News: Federer record depends on Novak, Safarova Life after Tennis, Safarova after hours, Citi Open 50th, Mental Strength Raonic

Fed and Nole

Novak can play at an amazing level and the fact that he took out Rafa at Wimbledon says a lot about his recovery.  He is the one consistent guy standing between Fed and winning and Rafa and winning, or at least he was and appears to be doing so again.

Safarova

It's always interesting to see what pros do with themselves off the court.

Health: Painkillers and Dementia Link, Farmed Salmon Toxicity

Link

The way the article reads is that when in old age this is when the effect is pronounced.  As for me I'd consider other options anyway since there are so many that help reduce inflammation.

Wild Salmon seems to be the safe bet.

Trolling Soccer Players at WImbledon - Neymar challenge

Trolling

Sorta funny, but you have to be a soccer fan to probably appreciate this.

Stan Smith, The Shoe and the Man

Stan Smith

I was in high school in the 1970's when I was able to see Stan Smith perform and exhibition match in Annapolis at a now defunct tennis club.  Sitting in the front row of folding chairs I was just a few feet from the court lines and it was an amazing thing to see Smith reach and smash overheads or his perfect volleys.  His serve of course was a cannon and just watching it gave me ideas on how to improve mine.

I played with his racket and wore his trademark shoes at one time.    It's nice to see the shoes have become a permanent fashion symbol so that when I want another pair I can find them.

This is no surprise.  Once he made it past Nadal it seemed his biggest challenge had been cleared.  Congratulations Novak.

Long Tennis Matches

Six Hours - how much is too much

Some of the most memorable matches that I've watched are the marathons.  The McEnroe vs Wilander match comes to mind. 5+ hours

Returning Serve at High Speed

How is it done at a professional level video

This is a great analysis and does help explain how many players can return high speed serves.  Prediction is everything.  This goes along with anticipation based on patterns where the brain over time develops shortcuts to see things quickly, identify outcomes, and react all within milliseconds.

Being a Pro Means Accepting Failure

Being a Pro Means Accepting Failure

This is so true if you imagine that a batting 500 in tennis means you lose a lot of matches and probably never win a tournament.  In my view to have the skill to function at a professional level in any area of life is by definition success.  If you are that skilled to play professionally then even if you never win a professional tournament you can be proud of your accomplishment in attaining that level of mastery.

Sports Drink or Chocolate Milk? Which is Better for Recovery.

Chocolate Milk - July 12, 2018

This is good news in a lot of ways.  Most of us like chocolate milk more than sugary fruit tasting water.  Based on this study at least it gives us chocolate lovers a legitimate argument for downing some after exercise.  It's also less costly by a wide margin since it's considered a legacy treat rather than some fancy sport drink.

During matches I'd be more thoughtful of taking in electrolytes myself.

Chocolate Milk - the next sports drink? - August 17, 2015

Chocolate Milk or Energy Drinks?  - October 13, 2010

As you can see this story is old news being made new again.

This brings us back to basics.  If you want carbs it comes down to versions of sugar and in the case of milk it's lactose.  With chocolate milk you get the caffeine that comes with it in addition to the good taste.  If you want a pure caffeine boost then there is always coffee but without protein and carbs you have only added a stimulant.  It seems that chocolate milk covers all of the bases in a moderate amount with good taste as a bonus.  I wouldn't overdo it but rather than spending so much on expensive health and sport drinks consider chocolate milk as another option.

Tennis Players:  I'd probably not drink chocolate during the match but rather consider it a recovery option.  During a match remember liquids, electrolytes, and even simple treats like bananas.

Graphical Replay of Greatest Match 2008

Wimbledon 2008 Final - Graphical Replay

This is an interesting review of the match.  If you haven't seen it you might consider buying the video.  It was epic.

Dimitrov Training Regimen and Lifestyle

Dimitrov

This spartan approach to becoming a tennis warrior has paid off so far for him despite Wimbledon.

Slow Motion Video of Serve and Forehand

The serve looks good.  He has a fast delivery and a well timed motion with a pinpoint stance.  Notice how he propels himself forward, launches, and lands on his left foot.

You can see the benefit of 60 frames per second.

Health: Electrolytes - Do you need them? YES if you play tennis

Electrolytes: Do you need them?

Yes you do if you are a tennis player.  Find a way through diet or supplementation to keep yourself safe and healthy despite the enervating effects of competition and training in the heat.  If you don't you'll someday face heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

25 second shot clock for tennis?

Rafa

It'll happen eventually.  The question is if they can fix that then maybe they should work on the screamfests out there on the court or rename it an opera rather than a sporting event.

Men's Tennis Fashion: Can it be cool again?

Cool again

I'd suggest you look to Federer to detect a move in fashion.  Money will help bring it.  I suspect Uniqlo will make a run for the title of new fashion in men's tennis for the 2020's.

The Federer Wealth Mystique

Federer

On the basis of what many other athletes earn it seems fitting that he is the highest paid because of his current record.  Aside from that he has a level of class and safe behavior that makes him a safe bet for sponsors that not many other athletes can offer.

Federer Takes 300 mil contract for Clothing

Uniqlo for 10 years whether he plays or not

I can't blame him for taking the money.  He can always use it for foundations or whatever else pleases him since I doubt he wants for money and would have to go full on Depp to get rid of what he has accumulated  which is not likely.

I've never even heard of the company and it makes me want to look at what they have to offer, so maybe it is a good move by them.
