Fasting for health is better than diet
I've tried fasting in the past and I notice it has gotten harder as I get older and life became more complicated. Still, if you can do it the arguments in favor of some type of fasting in your dietary planning will act to improve your health according to the studies that have come out.
Here is an alternative. Mini-fasting is something I've resorted to using. Have your last meal before 6 - 8 pm with no calories after that until the morning. If you can hold off breakfast until you've made it 12 -16 hours you've achieved a minimal fast. Sure many people follow that pattern anyway, but before I purposely followed this approach I used to snack until bedtime often as late at 11pm.
