Health: Vitamins - Are you taking too many?, Sunscreen Safety, Coffee and Tea Benefits, Heavy Exercise Risk, Unhappy People

Vitamins

The most obvious thing you can agree with in this article is that growing your own food has many benefits that include higher levels of nutrition versus store bought food.  There is no doubt that some vitamins and minerals help.  I can give you a specific example.  A potassium deficiency has all kinds of negative effects on the body including one I experienced and that is muscle spasms.  A doctor prescribed potassium pills and it went away immediately after having been a multi year problem. Now, it's been a decade and since I make sure to continue taking either potassium supplements or eating foods that contain it I haven't had the spasm problem again.

That is just one example.  Consider the benefits of natural intake first over vitamin supplements but aging also brings on the need for targeted supplementation for those of us that might have deficiencies or health issues that can benefit from them.

Sunscreen Safety

Consider wearing long sleeved shirts even when playing tennis.  Modern fabrics allow it without overheating in the sun and give you a SPF 15-30 protection depending on the color and type of fabric.  Putting Zinc Oxide based cream on your nose and top of your hands will give you some very targeted protection as well.

Praise for Kvitova and her return - Crazy Year

Praise for Kvitova and her return

Thankfully she didn't have her career cut short like others from injuries or attacks.  I always think of Seles and the German man that attacked her just so that Graf would benefit and how it ruined the career of Seles.  It is still a story of what could have been.  She was a champion and had it taken from her.  Hopefully, Petra will not only come back fully but eventually reach the top.

Health: Knee Pain Help, Grip Strength Predicts Longevity, Implantable Health Monitors, What does your walk say about you?, An Egg a day lowers risk of heart disease

10 Solutions for Sore Knees

We all have our own preferences for dealing with knee pain.  I've found that I use about half of these regularly including just walking it off, stretching, ice packs, and one that I didn't notice was external creams.  I like Aspercreme.

Grip Strength Predicts Longevity

Implantable Health Monitors

What does your walk say about you?

An Egg a day lowers risk of heart disease

This runs counter to old studies and even some recent ones so here we are again getting totally conflicting information.  Eggs do provide great protein and have to be better than red meat so I would follow the rule of moderation.  Eat them when you want to eat them but don't make them the staple of your diet.

Here is another article on Eggs with more information and it suggests you keep eggs in your diet.

Electromagnetic Radiation Risk

Insects at risk, so what about humans

I think it is wise to limit wifi and other EMF in your home.  Go hard wire where you can and when using a cell phone consider speaker phone and blue tooth versus having the full power of the phone coursing against and through your head at close range.

There is no point in finding out later that such Radiation is lethal or destructive to human tissue.

Study "Exercise makes Dementia worse."

Study

I find this hard to believe and if it is the case then maybe it is a self correcting problem since eventually dementia will slow anyone down enough that exercise is forgotten especially as energy levels decline.

Berdych Owned?

Berdych - the benchmark

You have to feel bad for a guy that can stay in the top ten and still not take the prize.  Worse yet is the abuse by those who couldn't likely win points against him on the court but enjoy scoring in words.

Hopefully he can at least make a good living and career out of it so that some day he'll retire as the owner of the tennis training facility.  I can think of worse fates than to be a guy who spent a good part of his life hitting tennis balls for a living, traveling, and getting paid for it.  Overall, I don't consider him a failure at all.  I'd happily take his spot as foil for the masters and as a gatekeeper for those wanting to enter the elites.

Tennis News: Sharapova has success on court, Thiem over Nadal - Madrid, Chris to Sell Boca, Zverev to Final - Madrid

A-listers having trouble but for Sharapova

Thiem over Nadal - Meaning

What does this mean for the future.  I think it only means that Thiem is moving up into the upper tier and may become a member of the top four.  Right now it appears that Zverev and Dimitrov have ascended while the clocks runs against Nadal and Federer as much as we love to see them remain at the top.  Thiem might then become another member of the European and Russian dominance of the ATP.   What happens when Thiem and Nadal next meet will be the indicator if this was just another random loss that Nadal suffers now and then or whether Thiem is solidifying his move to the upper ranks.  After all, he's in the top ten already so a few more position isn't out of the question.
